Emmetsburg IA — (NorthwestIowaNow.com) An Emmetsburg man was convicted of drug offences near Emmetsburg High School.

According to a press release, 57-year-old David Specketer of Emmetsburg plead guilty in federal court on November 14th, 2024 to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine within 1,000 feet of a protected location. Back in 2013 Specketer was convicted of conspiracy to manufacture and distribute methamphetamine.

During his plea hearing, Specketer admitted that on April 15th, while living in Emmetsburg, law enforcement attempted to arrest him at his residence for an outstanding warrant from a pending case in Woodbury County from 2022 for possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine.

Specketer also admitted to running back into his residence after initial contact with law enforcement at the door. Specketer was apprehended at his residence with approximately 1 ounce of methamphetamine.

During the hearing Specketer admitted to distributing all or some methamphetamine to another. Specketer’s  residence was located within 1000 feet of Emmetsburg high school, a protected location.

Specketer remains in custody of the United States Marshal’s service pending sentencing and faces a mandatory minimum sentence of five years imprisonment and a possible maximum sentence of 80 years’ imprisonment, a $10,000,000 fine and at least eight years of supervised released following any imprisonment.
