CLAY COUNTY, IA (Northwestiowanow) – A single-vehicle rollover accident in rural Clay County on Wednesday afternoon resulted in the hospitalization of an Emmetsburg man.

According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred at approximately 2:58 p.m. on July 9 in the 3300 mile of 310th Avenue (N14). Timothy Miller, 23, of Emmetsburg, was driving a 2000 Toyota 4Runner southbound when he reportedly experienced a medical issue, causing him to lose control of the vehicle.

Authorities say the SUV left the roadway and rolled three to four times before coming to rest on its driver’s side in the east ditch. Despite the severity of the crash, Miller was able to free himself. He sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported by Spencer Ambulance to Spencer Municipal Hospital for treatment.

The vehicle was declared a total loss, with damages estimated at $6,000.

Emergency responders from the Dickens and Ruthven Fire Departments assisted at the scene, along with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office and Spencer Ambulance Service.
