Emmetsburg, Iowa (NorthwestIowaNow.com) — It may only be March 13, but with St. Patrick’s Day in the middle of next week, the authorities that be in Emmetsburg planned their annual celebration for this weekend.
Today is the Chamber Coffee at 9:30 at the St. Pats Headquarters, which is Emmetsburg Irish Gifts store. There is a fish fry, corned beef and cabbage and bean bag tournament tonight, plus live music with Kayla Daniels later tonight.
Saturday the parade starts at 1:30, followed by a social gathering of the clans at the Fire Station. There is more food, live music and even a free movie for the kids to watch on Saturday, and the night brings Deal Breakers performing live in the St. Pats Tent.

Peter Chap Cleere is a member of the Irish Parliament, and his party’s spokesperson on Agriculture. Chap travelled to Emmetsburg this weekend from Dublin Ireland to serve as this year’s Irish Dignitary, which is an annual tradition between the city and the people of Ireland.
Northwest Iowa Now dot com met him yesterday at the open house at St Pats Headquarters after he flew into Minneapolis Tuesday night and traveled down to Emmetsburg for the festivities.
“Chap” is married with four children, and is an avid sportsman, having won several All-Ireland Medals in “Hurling.” He has only been to this country one other time.
He received the key to the city of Emmetsburg yesterday and today will be at the Chamber Coffee and all of the other events planned through the weekend. What does he think of Northwest Iowa so far?
