ESTHERVILLE, IA (Northwestiowanow) — An Estherville traffic stop led to the arrest of a Terril man on drug and firearm charges Thursday evening.
Officers with the Estherville Police Department were dispatched around 5:25 p.m. on April 9 after receiving a complaint about a driver operating a vehicle with a suspended license. After confirming the license status, officers conducted a traffic stop in the 200 block of South 1st Street.
The driver was identified as 48-year-old Richard “Rick” Ross of Terril. Police say Ross was pulling a trailer without lights or a license plate.
Ross was taken into custody for driving while suspended.
Estherville Police K-9, Pepper, was called to the scene and alerted to the presence of illegal substances inside the vehicle. A following search uncovered methamphetamine, marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and three firearms. One of the firearms was identified as a loaded short-barreled shotgun.
Ross was transported to the Emmet County Jail. He faces charges including Driving While Suspended, operating a Non-Registered Vehicle, Failure to Provide Proof of Financial Liability, Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Possession of a Short-Barreled Shotgun, a Class D felony.
