Fort Dodge, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – The Iowa High School State Cross Country Championships were held Friday and Saturday at Lakeside Municipal Golf Course in Fort Dodge.
Friday’s action began with the Class 2A Girls taking the course.
The State Championship went to McKenna Montgomery of Albia, running a time of 18:20.7.
Grace Woodall of Cherokee broke into the top 20 with a time of 20:16 to finish 20th.
Also, in the top 100 from the KICD 9-County Area was Ella Beck with a time of 21:29.9.
Winning the Class 2A State Team Championship was Treynor with 121 points. Waukon was the runner-up with 136 and Unity Christian of Orange City was 3rd with 138.
In the Class 2A Boys race, the State Champion with a time of 15:42 was Emerson Vokes of Grundy Center.
Spirit Lake’s Jace Hungerford got All-State status with a time of 16:40.7 and Malakai Vermeer of Sheldon also made the All-State team with a time of 16:41.
Also in the top 100 from the KICD 9-County Area was Jayden Hegenbarth from Sheldon in 38th at 17:21.6, Carter Trautman of Spirit Lake at 17:44.4, Oliver Thompson of Spirit Lake took 63rd at 17:47.2, Tyson Fear of Okoboji in 77th at 17:59.5, JD Gravert of Okoboji in 84th at 18:05.5, Carson Profit of Spirit Lake in 87th at 18:07 with Wylee Conway of Spirit Lake 89th at 18:07.8, Ryker Ballis of Okoboji 94th at 18:10.7, and Titus Coates of Spirit Lake at 18:16 in 100th.
Chariton won the Team State Championship with a dominant 42 points, Forest city was 2nd with 110, and Oelwein finished 3rd with 130 points. In 8th was Spirit Lake with 195 and Okoboji took 15th with 319.
The Class 3A Girls began Friday Afternoon.
The State Champion was Marissa Ferebee of Pella with a time of 17:47.9.
In the top 100 from the KICD 9-County Area was Silvia Kampbell in 63rd with a time of 20:19.5.
Winning the team title was Pella with a very impressive 31 points, 82 points in front of 2nd place Des Moines Christian of Urbandale with 113, and Mount Vernon-Lisbon was 3rd with 136.
For the Class 3A Boys Race, Western Dubuque’s Quentin Nauman added another notch to his legacy with a State Meet Record time of 14:48.3 to win the State Championship.
From the KICD 9-County Area, Joel Ramirez-Parra of Storm Lake was 19th with a time of 16:28.2, Spencer’s Rylie Koppie took 72nd at 17:16.9, and in 75th for Storm Lake was Jacob Mills with a time of 17:19.3.
Gilbert won the 3A State Title with 71 points, in 2nd was Mount Vernon-Lisbon with 101, and Pella took 3rd with 109. Storm Lake was 15th at 295.
Class 4A began Saturday’s action.
Piper Messerly won the Girls State Championship with a time of 17:41.9. The State Team Championship went to Northwest of Waukee with 67. Pleasant Valley was 2nd with 103 and Johnston took 3rd with 113.
In the Class 4A Boys race, Jaden Merrick took 1st with a time of 14:54.6. Indianola won the 4A team title with 102 points, 2nd was Cedar Falls with 104, and Centennial of Ankeny was 3rd with 157 points.
For the Class 1A Girl’s race, Lili Denton from St. Albert of Council Bluffs won the State Title with a time of 17:56.6.
West Bend-Mallard’s Tyra Schupbach reached All-State status with a 5th place time of 19:03.4.
Also in the top 100 from the KICD 9-County Area was Sage Weber in 26th with a time of 20:06, Marley Madsen was 31st with a time of 20:20.4, Hayden Berkland was 50th with a time of 20:50.9, Aleah Marco of Sibley-Ocheyedan took 58th with a time of 20:55.8, Newell-Fonda’s Quinn Sievers took 65th at 21:13.1, North Union’s Alexis Cummins was 71st at 21:21.7, Amadelaid Benitez of Sibley-Ocheyedan was 74th with 21:25.7, Newell-Fonda had Danika Meyer 87th at 21:48, and Nora Christian took 99th at 22:05.4.
The Team Champion for the Girls in Class 1A was South Winneshiek with 125 points, in 2nd was Sumner-Fredericksburg with 136, and Hudson was 3rd with 143. Sioux Central was 10th at 222, Newell-Fonda 12th at 243, Sibley-Ocheyedan was 13th with 246, and Alta-Aurelia took 16th with 324.
The Class 1A Boys State Champion was Hugh Conway of South Winneshiek with a time of 15:50.7.
Sioux Central’s Lucos Wernimont is an All-Stater with a time of 16:33.
In the top 100 from the KICD 9-County Area was Jack Christian of Sioux Central in 18th at 16:55.4, Alta-Aurelia’s Jacob Launderville with a time of 17:42.5 in 60th, Landon Davenport of South O’Brien in 63rd at 17:45, and Emmetsburg’s Ben Cox was 93rd at 18:17.2.
The Team Champion for the Boys in Class 1A was Riverside with 54 points. Lake Mills took 2nd at 69, and Ankeny Christian took 3rd at 124. Sioux Central was 11th with 253 points.
