SPENCER, IA (Northwestiowanow) – A suspected gas leak scare at Spencer High School prompted an early dismissal and response from emergency crews Wednesday afternoon.
Principal at Spencer High School, Dr. Kirsten Doebel, says the smell was reported in multiple areas of the building, and several students complained of headaches
The Spencer Fire Department and Black Hills Energy responded quickly to 800 East 3rd Street around 2:21 p.m., spending several hours inspecting gas lines, rooftop HVAC units, and air quality.
After deploying gas detectors, no leaks were found in the building. Officials believe the odor may have originated from outside.
Spencer High School was cleared by late afternoon, and classes have resumed as normal.

Spencer, IA (northwestiowanow.com) — Spencer Fire Rescue responded to a report of a gas odor at Spencer High School Wednesday afternoon.
Crews were dispatched to 800 East 3rd Street at 2:21 p.m. and arrived within minutes, joined by Spencer Police and Black Hills Energy.
Firefighters deployed multiple gas detectors throughout the building and inspected all gas-fired appliances and rooftop HVAC units.
No leaks were found, and the scene was cleared at 3:58 p.m.
