SPENCER, IA (Northwestiowanow) – Republican Gubernatorial Candidate Zach Lahn visited Clay County of part of his 99-county tour Thursday.

Lahn held a meet-and-greet in Spencer on August 6.

During the meeting, Lahn recounted his experience growing up in Northwest Iowa.

Lahn says he wants to take an “Iowa First” approach to governing.

He says the state is losing young residents at an alarming rate and reversing that trend should be a top priority for state leaders.

Lahn also spoke about preserving family farms, increasing transparency in farmland ownership, expanding innovation and flexibility in Iowa’s public schools, and addressing Iowa’s high cancer rates and water quality concerns.

The Clay County stop was part of a series of campaign events Lahn has been holding across Iowa ahead of the 2026 general election.
