Des Moines, IA (Northwestiowa.com) — Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds outlined her legislative priorities Tuesday night. She began the condition of the state address with a moment of silence for former Congressman Jim Leach, and Spirit Lake native Bill Northey who passed away last year.
Reynolds is suggesting 13.6 million dollars in disaster aid through the Economic Emergency Fund, a revolving loan fund for future disasters, and wants to legislatively change some insurance regulations. And the Governor also stressed the state needs to focus on expanding daycare, and rural healthcare.
Governor Reynolds said other initiatives will be to require work for able-bodied Iowans to receive Medicaid, an “all of the above” energy policy that will encourage nuclear plants in the state, and a study into Iowa’s high rate of cancer.
