Des Moines, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — Governor Reynolds has filled two vacant judicial positions in Northwest Iowa.
Associate Judge Andrew Smith of Alta will be promoted to a full District Court Judge in district 3-A, which covers Buena Vista, Cherokee, Clay, Dickinson, Emmet, Kossuth, Lyon, O’Brien, Osceola, and Palo Alto Counties. Smith received his law degree from the University of Iowa and replaces John M. Sandy who was appointed to a position on the Iowa Court of Appeals.
Melinda Wicks currently serves as a magistrate judge in Woodbury County and has been named to an associate judgeship in Buena Vista, Cherokee, Clay, Crawford, Ida, Monona, Plymouth, Sioux, and Woodbury Counties. Wicks received her law degree from Washburn University in Kansas and replaces the retiring Todd A. Hensley.
We are still waiting to hear who the Governor will appoint to fill a second open judge’s position in district 3-A when Nancy Whittenberg retires.
