NORTHWEST, IA (Northwestiowanow) – A disaster proclamation has been issued by Governor Kim Reynolds following the severe storms that swept through northwest Iowa on Wednesday, June 11.

Announced Friday, the proclamation allows state resources to be deployed for recovery efforts and activates two key assistance programs for residents impacted by the storm. Effective immediately and lasting through July 13, the proclamation opens access to the Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program and the Disaster Case Advocacy Program—both designed to help individuals and families recover from storm-related damage and hardship.

The Individual Assistance Grant Program provides up to $7,000 for households earning up to 200 percent of the federal poverty level. The funds may be used for home or vehicle repairs, replacement of essential personal property, food, or temporary housing. Applicants must submit original receipts and have 45 days from the date of the proclamation to apply.

The Disaster Case Advocacy Program, which has no income restrictions, connects residents with advocates who help develop personalized recovery plans and provide referrals to essential services. This program will remain available for 180 days.

Residents of Osceola and Palo Alto Counties can find more information and apply for assistance through the Iowa Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management at homelandsecurity.iowa.gov, or by contacting their local community action agency via iowacommunityaction.org.
