Spencer, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – Spencer hosted the 2025 IGHSAU Regional Singles and Doubles Tennis Tournament on Wednesday at the Riverview Tennis Courts in Spencer.

In the singles Tournament, Ebba Bjornstad of Spirit Lake/Okoboji picked up a first-round win in 3 sets over Le Mars’ Camilla Gonzalez. Bjornstad would fall in 2 sets to Camryn Glass, the top seed from Sergeant Bluff-Luton in the Quarterfinals.

Nailea Lopez of Storm Lake won in 3 sets against Mya Benson of Cherokee in the first round. It was Allie Ewalt of Spencer winning in 3 sets against Leila Jamie of Denison-Schleswig in the first round. Ewalt would beat Lopez in the Quarterfinals in 2 sets. Ewalt would take a 2 sets to 0 loss at the hands of Glass in the Semifinals, moving her into the 3rd place match.

On the other side of the bracket, Abbey Crew got a 2-0 first round win against Bethany Frostestad of Spirit Lake/Okoboji. Cherokee’s Nora Hare dropped her first-round match to Britt Hessenius of Le Mars in 3 sets.

Allison Galvin of Storm Lake dropped in 2 sets to Claira Britton of Sergeant Bluff-Luton. Estherville Lincoln Central’s Megan Lausen swept Abby Ratliff of Denison-Schleswig in the first round before also taking down SB-L’s Britton in the Quarterfinals in two sets as well.

Spencer’s Crew swept Le Mars’ Hessenus in the quarterfinals. That set up a semifinal match between a couple of familiar Lakes Conference foes in Spencer’s Abby Crew and Estherville Lincoln Central’s Megan Lausen. Lausen came away with the 2 sets to 0 win, punching her ticket to the State Tournament.

It was an all-Spencer 3rd place match in the singles Tournament as Abbey Crew got past Allie Ewalt in 3 sets.

Estherville Lincoln Central’s Megan Lausen fell in the Championship match to Camryn Glass of Sergeant Bluff-Luton 2 sets to 0.

In the double’s tournament, top seeded Graettinger and Merchant of Spencer dominated their first-round match against Schulte and Bahnsen of Denison-Schleswig 2 sets to 0, only dropping one game overall to advance into the Quarterfinals. Cherokee’s Bouchard and Patterson came away with a similar win in 2 sets against Hatland and Harvey of Estherville Lincoln Central. Graettinger and Merchant won in two 6-1 sets against Bouchard and Patterson, moving on to the Semifinals.

The first round saw Spirit Lake/Okoboji’s team of Kleckner and Nelson lose in two sets to Abels and Grote of Sergeant Bluff-Luton. Storm Lake’s Castillo and Monzon lost in two sets, 6-1 and 6-2 against Wright and Cunningham of Le Mars.

Spencer’s Graettinger and Merchant advanced to the Championship match and punched their ticket to the State Tournament with a 2-set sweep of Le Mars’ Wright and Cunningham in the Semifinals.

On the other side of the Bracket, Androski and Schlachter of Spirit Lake/Okoboji won all 12 games in a sweep against Reineke and Thlen of Estherville Lincoln Central in the first round. It was Christensen and Volkert of Cherokee getting past Perkins and Thammavong of Storm Lake 2 sets to 0. Androski and Schlachter beat Christensen and Volkert in the Quarterfinals by two 6-2 sets to move on to the Semifinals.

Spencer’s Kabrick and Elser topped Le Mars’ Brown and Washburn 6-1 and 6-2 in two sets before dropping to Rooney and Britton of Sergeant Bluff-Luton in the Quarterfinals in two 6-1 sets.

Androski and Schlachter of Spirit Lake/Okoboji lost 2 sets to 0 against Rooney and Britton of Sergeant Bluff-Luton, pivoting them into the 3rd place match where they beat Wright and Cunningham of Le Mars 2 sets to 0. Graettinger and Merchant of Spencer took a rare loss in the Championship match to Rooney and Britton of Sergeant Bluff-Luton in 3 sets, winning the first one 6-1, before dropping set two 6-0 and set 3 6-3.
