LAKE PARK, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — The Harris Lake Park school board decided after a boiler malfunction that students would NOT return to the 1976 building before they move to the new elementary currently being completed East of the Middle School and High School.

Superintendent Mike Thompson, however, says they are NOT just closing the door and walking away.

1st through 5th graders were moved to the Middle School, with Kindergarten, TK, and Pre-school using makeshift rooms at the Presbyterian church.

There is the possibility they can move to their new, permanent, building sooner than expected.

The boiler malfunction caused water and steam damage throughout the building. The age of the heating system was one of the factors in HLP voters approving the bond issue for the new school in 2023.
