Paullina, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – Big Country 107.7 had an O’Brien County Rivalry in the War Eagle Conference between Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn and South O’Brien.

Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn got off to a nice start on the road against South O’Brien, taking a 16-8 lead at the end of the 1st Quarter. South O’Brien would chip that gap down to 5 at halftime.

The Hawks would put together a strong 3rd quarter, outscoring the Wolverines 15-9 in that frame, and hold on to that margin to pick up the 51-41 win.

Kylee Schiphoff scored 15 to lead Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn on the evening.

Chloe Hustedt had 10 to lead the Wolverines.

South O’Brien’s record is now 2-5 after the loss while the Hawks improve to 6-2.

The South O’Brien Boys had a 15-10 lead at the end of the first quarter and continued to grow the margin, outscoring Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn by 11 in the 2nd, 5 in the 3rd, and 8 in the 4th to win 68-40.

The Wolverines had 3 double digit scorers, led by Derek Paulsen’s 27.

Caden Douma had 16 in the loss for the Hawks.

Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn’s early struggles continue as they fall to 1-6 and 1-2 in the War Eagle.

South O’Brien jumps above .500 in conference play and the season at 3-2 and 2-1.
