Hartley, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn welcomed War Eagle Conference foes George-Little Rock to town on Tuesday night.

In the girls contest, the Mustangs darted out to a 12-6 lead in the first quarter and grew that margin to 8 by halftime to lead 24-16. Grace Ubbinga dominated in the first 16 minutes with 12 points for George-Little Rock.

Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn struck back in a big way for the 3rd quarter, outscoring the Mustangs 17-4 to take a 33-28 lead going into the 4th.

George-Little Rock avoided the upset though by scoring 19 to the Hawks’ 4 points in the 4th as the Mustangs won 47-37.

Grace Ubbinga ended up with 15 points on the night. Navaeh Feucht and Lindsey Haken were also in double figures as George-Little Rock improves to 9-0 on the year and 6-0 in the War Eagle Conference.

Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn was led in scoring by Moriah Otto’s 14. HMS falls to 2-8 on the season and 1-3 in the War Eagle.

The Boys game was a fun one. George-Little Rock bested the Hawks in the 1st quarter 16-12. The Mustangs grew their lead to 6 going into the half, up 31-25 on Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn.

HMS came back to tie the game at 37 going into the 4th quarter, and outscored George-Little Rock 16-9 in the 4th quarter to come away with the 53-46 win.

Isaac Schierholtz put together another strong performance, scoring 23 in the win for the Hawks. Caden Douma was also in double figures for HMS with 16 as they improve to 7-2 on the year and 3-1 in the War Eagle Conference.

George-Little Rock was led by Patrick Denhartog in the loss, as he came off the bench to score 11. The Mustangs fall to 3-6 on the year and 1-5 in the War Eagle Conference.
