Sioux City, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — A Hull man previously convicted of a felony has now been sentenced to twenty-seven months in prison for illegally possessing a firearm.

36-year-old Joseph Garlic was arrested in August of 2024 in Sioux City during a medical incident. Several days earlier his girlfriend – 44-year-old Andrea Harrington of Sioux City – told a park ranger in Hinton that Garlic was violent and had possession of a handgun. A search of their campsite produced the box but not the weapon. When authorities showed up to the medical incident the loaded gun was found on Harrington’s person. Garlic later admitted he had given it to her before police arrived.

The investigation was carried on jointly by the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department, Iowa Department of Conservation, and United States Department of Justic’s bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives.

Harrington says she liked on the application to purchase the gun back in 2023, saying she was not a drug user when she was actively using illegal methamphetamines. Under a plea deal, Harrington plead guilty to transferring a firearm to a known felon and was given three months in prison.
