Spencer, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — In the days during and after the flood a multi-county task force examined ways to prevent a similar disaster in the future. Flood experts say a reservoir between the Iowa Great Lakes and Spencer would not work, and setting aside wetlands is probably the best option. Clay County Supervisor Chairman Allen Batschelet says the Iowa Department of Agriculture is offering to help.

Batschelet says that individual would be trained on finding financial resources to create those wetlands.

The Iowa Department of Agriculture has already created several water conservation districts in the state for the purpose of water quality, including one in the headlands of the Des Moines River in Buena Vista County.
