In a significant boost for student veterans, Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) recently celebrated the grand re-opening of its Veterans Centers, revamped thanks to a $587,298 federal grant, providing enhanced support and resources for those who have served across three campuses: Estherville, Emmetsburg, and Spencer. US. Senator Joni Ernst was at the event today (Friday June 20) at the Spencer Campus, highlighting the significance of these improved facilities for veterans.

Veteran Center Director Tim Ireland emphasized the college’s commitment to these students.

The revitalized centers offer a variety of amenities to support veterans’ academic journeys, including computers, iPads, aviation headsets, and specialized calculators available for loan, which significantly cuts down on initial equipment costs. These spaces also foster community by providing dedicated areas for veterans to connect with peers and enjoy informal gatherings like group meals.

Ireland also highlighted the broader goal of empowering veterans to leverage their hard-earned educational benefits.

Ireland said the newest Flagship Veterans Center at the Spencer campus is serving nearly 25 percent of veterans in the Aviation program, making it their biggest program by far after only opening last year.
