Boyden, IA (NorthwestIowaNow) — An alleged kidnapping and domestic assault incident have led to multiple felony charges against an Inwood man.

25-year-old Joseph James Haack of Inwood was arrested Thursday July 9 by the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities allege Haack forced a victim into his vehicle in Sheldon and drove away against her will.

According to investigators, Haack threatened to harm the victim’s children if she refused to go with him. He also allegedly told the victim he was going to kill her, assaulted her, and prevented her from leaving the vehicle.

The victim was able to contact law enforcement when Haack stopped in Boyden to purchase alcohol.

Haack has been charged with Third-Degree Kidnapping, a Class C felony; Assault Committed by a Person Against Whom a Protective Order Is Issued, a Class D felony; First-Degree Harassment, an aggravated misdemeanor; Domestic Abuse Assault Causing Injury or Mental Illness, First Offense, a serious misdemeanor; and Driving While License Denied or Revoked, a serious misdemeanor.

Court records also show Haack is facing a separate simple misdemeanor charge of Violation of a No Contact or Protective Order stemming from the same incident

Haack was booked into the Sioux County Jail in Orange City on a $50,000 cash-only bond. Court records indicate a preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 21.
