Arnolds Park, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — You’re a little late if you wanted to participate in the annual contest to see when the Iowa Great Lakes Rotary club car falls through the ice … it went down at about 10:15 Wednesday morning. (fFeb 18) What started as a contest to select the day has evolved into a contest to select the TIME it happens. There’s a clock onboard that stops when it’s submerged and the winner will be declared after the car is recovered.
Club spokesperson Erin Reed say this is not the earlier the car has ever gone down, that was February 8th of 2024. She says it was unusual in that the car typically sinks slowly, but it was over in a hurry this time around.
It’s been an unusual week already with ice anglers out on the same lake where others are boating in open water.
