Spencer, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – The Iowa Lakes Men’s Soccer team hosted Western Iowa Tech for the NJCAA Division II Region 11 Semifinal on Tuesday afternoon in Spencer.
The Lakers beat the Comets back on October 19th in Sioux City 1-0. Iowa Lakes left no doubt this time around, scoring 4 goals in the first 20 minutes and cruising to a 6-0 win. Freshman Florent Lefebvre liked the improvement in a must win situation.
Goalkeeper Louis Kruger had a huge day in the Box, keeping the clean sheet and had multiple big saves on the day.
Coach Ben MaCrae said it was nice to see Kruger get some saves in and gain some confidence.
After getting challenged by Western Iowa Tech in the regular season, Lefebvre was happy to get them on the home pitch.
Iowa Lakes now advances to the Region 11 Championship where they will play their rivals Northeast, the only loss so far this season for the Lakers.
This will be the fifth meeting between the two teams in the last 2 seasons, with 3 of those meetings coming in the postseason. MaCrae says there are two very different styles of play when the Lakers and Hawks Clash.
The NJCAA Division II Region 11 Championship will be on Saturday in Norfolk, Nebraska. The winner advances to the District Championship on Friday November 8th.
