JACKSON, MN (Northwestiowanow) – A two-vehicle collision Monday evening resulted in the death of a Jackson man.

Jackson County Sheriff Shawn Haken reports that deputies responded to the crash at approximately 5:23 PM on U.S. Highway 71 at Bailey Street. According to the Sheriff’s Office, a 2017 Ford Fusion driven by a teenager was traveling southbound and had signaled to make a right turn onto Bailey Street.

Traveling behind the Fusion, 48-year-old Jason Mekosch of Jackson was operating a 1991 Harley Davidson motorcycle. Authorities say Mekosch attempted to pass the Ford on the right while it was turning. The motorcycle clipped the car and then struck a nearby light pole.

Emergency responders, including the Jackson Ambulance and Jackson Fire Department, arrived at the scene. Mekosch was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Officials confirmed that Mekosch was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The incident remains under investigation.
