January is National Blood Donor Awareness Month, and the recent Clay County Health Update featured Matt Lockey with Spencer Hospital talking about the importance of blood donation and why it’s observed in January.
LifeServe Blood Center provides blood products for Spencer Hospital, along with most hospitals in the Northwest Iowa Now listening area.
Maintaining a strong, reliable blood supply all year long is only possible through donations from blood donors, and Lockey suggests setting a blood donation goal for 2026 and people can start online.
Lockey says donating blood is one of the most direct ways a person can help their community.
