Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Joni Ernst paid tribute Tuesday to South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham.

Ernst honored the life and legacy of Graham on the Senate floor July 14.

Graham died Saturday July 11 at age 71 from complications related to an aortic dissection, according to a preliminary finding from the Washington, D.C. medical examiner.

Ernst highlighted Graham’s 33 years of military service and commitment to defending American values.

Ernst said Graham was one of her earliest supporters before she entered the Senate and remained a close friend of her family throughout the years.

Ernst also praised Graham’s influence on the world stage, noting the respect he commanded from international leaders and his steadfast belief in American leadership abroad.

The Iowa senator closed by offering condolences to Graham’s family, especially his sister Darlene, and to the people of South Carolina, saying his legacy of service, leadership and friendship will not be forgotten.
