Spencer, Ia (KICD) – The Iowa Lakes Men’s and Women’s Soccer teams hosted Northwest on Wednesday afternoon in the first battle of Highway 18.
The Men’s Game was all Lakers as NJCAA Division II’s top ranked team routed the Thunder 7-0.
Northwest is in their first year as a program, and they are led by Spencer native and coach of the Spencer High School Soccer Team Jesse Kuehler. Kuehler says the Thunder knew it would be a challenge and there are some things to take away from the match Northwest will look to improve on.
Lander Barrio Gonzalez, a Sophomore from Cantabria Spain, was happy with the Lakers effort in the first half but wants the team to keep that intensity throughout.
The Lakers are yet to take a loss on the season despite a challenging schedule. Ruadhan Feeney, a Sophomore from Darry, Ireland says they’re taking it one game at a time.
Iowa Lakes Men’s Coach Ben MaCrae addressed some of the things he hopes to see improve as the Lakers move in to the home stretch of the regular season.
The Iowa Lakes Women would also pull away quickly from Northwest. The much deeper Lakers came away with a 12-0 win against their new ICCAC foe. Northwest was short handed on the day, but coach Tre Thomas feels the team is moving in the right direction.
