Lakeside, IA – The Storm Lake Fire Department responded to a house fire at 237 Elm Street in Lakeside at 5:42 a.m. on the morning of May 6th. Firefighters encountered heavy smoke emanating from the residence when they arrived, and called for assistance. Fire departments from Alta and Newell were called in to assist with water supply.

Firefighters found fire spreading, and smoke throughout, especially in the attic. After opening things up and an aggressive interior battle, they successfully contained the blaze to the attic and foyer area. However, the home sustained extensive damage. Following an investigation, the Storm Lake Fire Department determined the cause of the fire improper disposal of cigarettes.
