LAURENS, IA (Northwestiowanow) – The City of Laurens marked a major milestone last night with an Open House celebrating the near-completion of the long-awaited Laurens Aquatic Center.

The event, held at 602 East Veterans Road, brought together residents, city officials, and project supporters to reflect on more than a decade of planning, fundraising, and construction.

The total cost of the project is estimated at just over $3 million. More than $2.5 million was raised through community donations and grants. The remaining balance will be covered by the city’s Parks and Recreation Fund and an authority bond.

City Manager Hillary Reed, who has overseen the project since 2016, shared her excitement and gratitude during the event.

Plans are also underway for a donor wall to recognize the many individuals and organizations who contributed to the project. The city is working with CMBA Architects to have the wall installed in time for the Summer Celebration.

The Grand Opening and Dedication Ceremony for the Laurens Aquatic Center is scheduled for the evening of Friday, July 11, when the city will host a ribbon-cutting event to officially unveil the new pool to the public — making a big splash in Laurens.
