LAURENS, IA (Northwestiowanow) — Local Laurens business Heart ‘n Home has been honored with the 2025 PCEDC Business Spirit Award, highlighting standout businesses across Pocahontas County.

The Pocahontas County Economic Development Commission handed out its annual awards January 12 at Odd Fellows in Pocahontas. The Business Spirit Award recognizes businesses that strengthen economic development while fostering generosity, collaboration, and a welcoming environment for residents.

Heart ‘n Home owner Julie Wurr says the description of the award mirrors what her customers and community create every day.

Wurr, who has operated the business at 140 N 3rd Street for more than 30 years, says the Laurens retail community has a long history of supporting each other rather than competing.

She says while the award is meaningful, she doesn’t believe it changes anything long-term.

In a written statement, Wurr expressed deep gratitude, saying she simply has the privilege of “unlocking the door each morning” while the community creates the supportive environment Heart ‘n Home is known for.
