CLAY COUNTY, IA (Northwestiowanow) – A traffic stop in rural Clay County on Monday led to a LeMars man being arrested with multiple charges.
According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, on Monday, July 7, at approximately 4:25 p.m., a deputy conducted a traffic stop in the 1300 mile of 440th Street. The driver, identified as Bermin Elnei, 52, of LeMars, was found to be operating a vehicle with a barred driver’s license.
Deputies discovered during the stop that Elnei was also in possession of marijuana. Following the discovery, Elnei was taken into custody and transported to the Clay County Jail.
Elnei faces multiple charges including Speeding, No Insurance, No Driver’s License, Driving Under Suspension, and Failure to File SR-22 Insurance, all Simple Misdemeanors. He was also charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance – Marijuana, a Serious Misdemeanor. The most serious charge is Driving While Barred, an Aggravated Misdemeanor.
Authorities say the case remains under investigation.
