Sibley, IA (NorthwestIowaNow.com) — Clean safe drinking water for future generations was the goal, and Sibley Mayor Jerry Johnson is celebrating.

Sibley is the final city to be connected to the Lewis & Clark Regional Water System, joining 19 other cities across Iowa, Minnesota and South Dakota. A red ribbon cutting ceremony was held Monday at the Sibley Meter Station in front of a small crowd on Monday. Troy Larsen serves as director of Lewis & Clark Regional Water and points out how significant this project is.

Officials from all levels of government were present at the event, including Senator Chuck Grassley, Federal Director of Strategic Engagement Will McIntee, and representatives for Senator Joni Ernst. Congressman Randy Feenstra rep Wes Fopma spoke on behalf of the congressman.

By 2030 the Lewis & Clark project should be fully completed, after finishing the meter house in Vermillion on Lewis & Clark Lake. Then Sibley will have one million gallons of water on reserve.
