Northwest Iowa (Northwestiowanow.com) — There were at least three major grassfires in the KICD Broadcast area Friday. The Milford and Lake Park fire departments battled a blaze in the Horseshoe Bend area Southwest of Milford in the afternoon.

Wallingford and Estherville responded to a similar event South of Wallingford that was allowed to burn itself out since there were no structures in its path.

Estherville was also called along with the Terril fire department to provide mutual aid for Spirit Lake, who were called to a grassfire Northeast of Superior.

Spirit Lake fire chief Pat Daly says around 80 acres burned, and wet conditions caused at least two vehicles to get stuck. Spirit Lake had two other calls Friday: Alarms went off at the Spirit Lake Middle School when a student put a plastic container in a microwave, and they answered a false alarm at a residence on the North end of Big Spirit Lake.
