Osceola, Iowa (NorthwestIowaNow.com) — A former county attorney for Osceola County is facing one count of OWI, first offense. 37-year-old Nolan McGowan is currently the Lyon County Attorney, although no comment is being given on his status after the arrest.
According to KTIV Sioux City, a deputy pulled McGowan over on an Osceola County road around 12:30 am Sunday, February 2. The pickup he was driving was going 88 miles per hour in a 65 mile per hour zone. The report says McGowan showed signs of intoxication, and he was offered field sobriety tests, but McGowan refused.
The report continues with McGown being taken to Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, read his Miranda Rights, and then asked to provide a sample for alcohol testing, he refused. He was then booked and charged with OWI.
He has since posted bond, and will have a preliminary hearing February 21. McGown was appointed to the Lyon County Attorney’s office December 24, 2024, and took the oath of office mid-January.
