MILFORD, IA (Northwestiowanow) – The Milford City Council has approved the annexation of the new Okoboji elementary school property, along with the surrounding Holzrichter land, into city limits.
During the regular city council meeting on Monday, June 23, the council voted in favor of the annexation. The move supports the school district’s expansion plans and opens the door for future residential development west of Milford.
The annexed area includes the school site at the intersection west of Milford and extends just past it, stopping short of the Dole platoon. The city had previously extended sewer and water infrastructure to the area nearly eight years ago during the 834 projects.
Milford Mayor Steve Anderson says that investment is now paying off.
That infrastructure made the site a viable option for the Okoboji School District, which ultimately purchased the land for its new elementary school.
A public hearing was also held during the meeting. No objections were raised, and the annexation was approved without issue. City officials are hopeful the move will also encourage housing development on the surrounding land.
