Milford, IA (northwestiowanow.com) — City and school officials in Milford and several downtown merchants are concerned about the speed of traffic traveling through their community, especially when the kids are heading to or from school.
The city asked the D.O.T. about lowering the speed limit, but the D.O.T. told them the best way to regulate motorists would be to narrow highway 71 from four lanes to three.
District Engineer Jessica Felix says the soonest that could be done is when the highway is scheduled to be resurfaced in 2030.
There are other short and long-term solutions the city could try.
Felix told Milford city officials switching to three lanes or keeping it four it up to them. The city council referred the issue back to the infrastructure committee for a recommendation. Public meetings on the issue have brought out Milford residents on both sides of the issue.
