Sibley, Iowa (NorthwestIowaNow.com) — A Milford man has been arrested and charged with felony burglary following an incident in Sibley.
According to a criminal complaint filed with the Osceola County Clerk of Court’s Office by the county sheriff’s office, 42-year-old Tony VandeBurg of Milford was arrested on Saturday. He is accused of attempting to hide in a convenience store after hours.
The deputy’s statement reportedly details that the manager of the Casey’s store in Sibley contacted law enforcement when they were preparing to close and noticed someone was still in the bathroom. After knocking without a response, the manager opened the bathroom door to find no one inside. The deputy then reportedly observed dirt on the toilet seat and a ceiling tile that appeared to have been moved. With some tiles missing in the manager’s office, the deputy was able to shine a flashlight above the false ceiling, where VandeBurg was reportedly seen curled up against the back wall. His backpack was later found, and the deputy reports it contained burglar’s tools.
