Clay County, IA (NorthwestIowaNow.com) — Just after 6 o’clock Saturday morning, a single vehicle crash was reported on US Highway 71. The Clay County Sheriff’s Office responded May 10th, to the 2900 mile of U.S. Hwy 71. According to reports,  Ryan Reineke of Spencer, IA, was traveling northbound at a high rate of speed on a 2008 “Kawasaki ZX-10 R” when he lost control. The motorcycle entered the east ditch, rolled, and ejected Reineke, splitting the motorcycle in two.

Reineke, who was wearing a helmet, suffered incapacitating injuries and was transported to Spencer Municipal Hospital by ambulance. The motorcycle was a total loss, estimated at $7,500. Charges are pending further investigation.

While emergency crews provided traffic control at the scene, a secondary collision occurred when a driver failed to slow down and rear-ended a vehicle that had slowed. Minor injuries were reported in this second crash, investigated by the Iowa State Patrol, with both drivers declining medical aid.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Spencer Municipal Hospital Ambulance, Spencer Fire Department, Fostoria Fire Department, Spencer Police Department, and Iowa State Patrol.
