Graettinger, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – Big Country 107.7 brought you regional basketball last night from Graettinger as GTRA took on Newell-Fonda for Twin Lakes Conference play.
The Newell-Fonda girls bolted out to a 22-7 lead in the 1st quarter, following that up with 17 more points in the 2nd, and led the Titans 39-15 at the half. The Mustangs would get the clock running in the 3rd Quarter after outscoring GTRA 21-8 and coasted to a 68-30 route of their conference foe.
Four out of Nine scorers for Newell-Fonda were in double-figures, led by both Ella Roberts and Ellie Sievers with 14.
Only four Titans were able to get points on Tuesday night, with Kamryn Hough and Addison Hansen each scoring 8.
Newell-Fonda is now 14-2 on the year and 10-0 in Twin Lakes games.
GTRA drops to 9-11 and 5-5 in the League.
The Boy’s contest was a tough battle through the first 3 quarters. Newell-Fonda and GTRA were tied after the first quarter, then the Titans outscored the Mustangs 20-16 in the 2nd to lead 36-32 at halftime. Newell-Fonda responded in the 3rd with a 23-17 advantage and capped off the night by outscoring GTRA by 5 in the 4th to pull away with a 74-67 win.
Guyson Lyman gave the Mustangs 23 points in the win.
GTRA got 17 out of both Kasey Hough and Tegan Hanson.
Newell-Fonda continues a strong year at 12-4 and 10-0 in the Twin Lakes Conference. A date with Cherokee is next for the Mustangs, in a night that should feature two great games on February 6th.
GTRA’s up and down season continues with the loss, going to 9-9 overall and 4-6 in the TLC. The Titans will get Sioux Central on Friday for more Twin Lakes Conference play.
