Spencer, IA (northwestiowanow.com) — For the second year in a row the focus of National Fire Prevention Week is the potential dangers with now ubiquitous lithium batteries. Spencer Fire Chief Jesse Coulsen says step one is to charge your powered devices properly.

Coulsen tells KICD News the batteries themselves contain chemicals that can self-combust.

Oh … and this is the week to test and change the battery in your smoke detector.
