Spencer, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – The IHSAA and IGHSAU Track and Field State Qualifying Meets were ran yesterday across Iowa. Northwest Iowa Now was in attendance at the Class 3A Qualifier in Sioux Center.

Spencer’s Lauren Stuckey is in to the State Meet as a Freshman after placing 2nd in the High Jump at 5 feet 2 inches with Storm Lake’s Melanie Chanthapangna winning via attempts tiebreaker. With the powerful West wind, the high jump pit was adjusted to the East side so the athletes would have the wind at their back in the jump. Stuckey talked about how that affected her approach.

Spencer’s Tate VonEhwegen came off a tough 400 in the Sprint Medley Relay to still qualify for State in the High Jump at 6′ even in 2nd place.

Mackenzie Harder of Storm Lake won the Girls Long Jump with 19’9”.

The Spencer Boys 800m Sprint Medley Relay team of Lauck, Robbins, Berends and VonEhwegen finished first, advancing to the State meet with a time of 1:35.04.

Peyton Morey of Spencer is heading back to the State meet in the Girls 3000 after upsetting Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley’s Elyse Zwart to finish 2nd at 10:45.88. Morey came in with a good race strategy.

In the Boys 3200m Run, Joel Ramirez-Parra of Storm Lake will advance to the State Meet with a 1st place time of 10:22.09.

The Boys 4x110m Shuttle Hurdle Relay was won by Spencer. A team of Pitts, Hinkeldey, Lovan, and Steuben threw down a blistering school record time of 58.65 seconds.

For the Girls 100m Dash, Mackenzie Harder of Storm Lake took 1st at 12.31 seconds.

Spencer’s Miles Robbins will be back at the State Meet in the 100m Dash after medaling last season. Robbins took 2nd at 11.31 and is hoping to iron out a number of things before getting to the stadium.

In the Girls 400m Dash, Storm Lake’s Mackenzie Harder clocked 1:00.56 seconds to finish 2nd.

Garbieno Weno of Storm Lake cracked the 50 second barrier in the 400m Dash, running 49.62 seconds to finish 1st.

The Spencer Boys 4x200m Relay team of Robbins, Pitts, Berends, and VonEhwegen ran 1:29.16 to finish 2nd.

Mackenzie Harder of Storm Lake will be a 4-event qualifier at the State Meet this year, ticking 25.28 seconds in the Girls 200m Dash to place 1st.

Storm Lake’s Garbieno Weno came back for the 200m Dash, edging Spencer’s Jack Berends at the line to finish 2nd with a time of 22.62 seconds.

Spencer Sophomore Lucy Simington makes it 2 for 2 on State Qualifying seasons in the Girls 400m Hurdles with a time of 1:07.5 to finish 1st. Simington says she’s a lot better than last year, and hopes that reflects at the State Championships.

Preston Pitts of Spencer made it a sweep for the Tigers in the 400m Hurdles with a time of 55.14 seconds to finish 1st. Pitts opened up a big lead early.

Joel Ramirez-Parra hit the NOS on the final 150 meters to pass Spencer’s Nathan Rodriguez in the Boys 1600m run, taking 2nd for the Tornadoes with a time of 4:40.82.

Spencer’s 4x100m Relay Boys team of Lauck, Robbins, Berends, and Pitts clocked 43.38 seconds to finish 2nd.

In the Girls team scores, Sioux Center won with 170 points, their Sioux County rival MOC-Floyd Valley was 2nd at 158.5, a big gap on 3rd place Algona with 98. Spencer was 4th and Storm Lake 5th.

Algona won the Boys meet comfortably with 152.5 points, MOC-Floyd Valley was 2nd at 111 and Spencer just behind them at 108 points in 3rd.

MMCRU was in Woodbine for a Class 1A State Qualifier.

The Royals 4x800m Relay Boys team of Alesch, Colling, Galles, and Braun clocked 8:29.06 to finish first.

Sheldon hosted a Class 2A State Qualifier with Okoboji and Sheldon also attending from the KICD 9-County Area.

Okoboji’s Calan Peters is on to State in the Boys Discus, placing 1st with a throw of 153’8”.

Elijah Graves of Okoboji won the Boys high jump with a mark of 6′ flat, winning the attempts tiebreaker against Ridge View’s Carter Todd.

In the Boys 3200m Run, Caleb Huff of Sheldon won with a time of 10:46.77.

Okoboji Boys’ 4x110m Shuttle Hurdle Relay team of Graves, Simington, Jacobsen, and Heller won with a time of 1:00.05.

For the Boys 1600m Distance Medley Relay, Okoboji’s team of Stein, Heller, Larson, and Heimdal won with a time of 3:42.24.

Rhyker Wright of Okoboji won the Boys 400m Dash at 51.69 seconds.

It was Jerron Heller winning the Boys 110m Hurdles for Okoboji with a time of 15.08.

Elijah Graves of Okoboji was the winner in the Boys 400m Hurdles with a time of 55.06 seconds.

The Okoboji Girls 4x100m Relay team of Avery, Wells, Meyer, and Allen won with a time of 49.97 seconds.

The Okoboji Boys 4x400m Relay team of Osler, Heimdal, Graves, and Wright won with a time of 3:24.46.

Emmetsburg, Estherville Lincoln Central, Pocahontas Area, Sioux Central, and Spirit Lake were at the 2A State Qualifier in Garner.

Sage Weber of Sioux Central won the Girls 3000m with a time of 11:36.43.

Brandon Hughes of Spirit Lake was the Champion in the Boys 3200m with a time of 10:20.1.

The Spirit Lake Girls 4x800m Relay team of Mueting, Beck, Petersen, and Scott was 1st at 10:24.9.

Spirit Lake also won the Boys 4x800m Relay at 8:33.06 with a team of Dirks, Hungerford, Trautman, and Hughes.

In the Girls 4x100m Shuttle Hurdle Relay, Estherville Lincoln Central’s team of Schiltz, Peta, Shatto, and Yager won at 1:10.61 seconds.

For the Boys 4x110m Shuttle Hurdle Relay, Spirit Lake’s team of Hagedorn, Barthman, Stecker, and Winkel clocked 59.3 seconds to finish 1st.

It was Amanda Davis of Pocahontas Area winning the Girls 100m Dash at 14 seconds.

Spirit Lake’s Boys Distance Medley Relay team of Stecker, Grau, Dirks, and Hungerford won with a time of 3:38.49.

Rachel Schaney of Emmetsburg won the Girls 400m Dash at 1:01.8.

The Spirit Lake girls 4x200m Relay team of DeWild, Keenan, Bolluyt, and Leupold won with a time of 1:46.49.

Also winning the 4x200m Relay was the Spirit Lake Boys team of Stecker, Winkel, Higgins, and Stecker at 1:29.87.

Spirit Lake’s Cooper Winkel won the Boys 110m Hurdles at 14.94 seconds.

In the Boys 800m Run, Dietrich Dirks of Spirit Lake ran 2:01.26 to finish 1st.

Anthea Leupold of Spirit Lake was the winner for the Girls 200m Dash at 26 seconds.

For the Boys 200m Dash, Dylan Stecker of Spirit Lake won at 22.64 seconds.

It was Sage Weber of Sioux Central winning the Girls 1500m Run at 5:10.11.

Jace Hungerford of Spirit Lake won the Boys 1600m Run at 4:30.39.

In the Girls 4x100m Relay, Spirit Lake’s Keenan, DeWild, Bruinsma, and Leupold ran 49.36 seconds to win.

For the Boys 4x100m Relay, Stecker, Winkel, Orpen, and Stecker joined to win with a time of 42.48 seconds.

The Spirit Lake Girls won the 4x400m Relay at 4:09.49 with a team of Petersen, DeWild, Scott, and Bruinsma.

Estherville Lincoln Central’s 4x400m Relay team of Shatto, Martin, White, and Smith finished 1st at 3:27.11.

Rachel Schany of Emmetsburg jumped 5’4” in the High Jump to finish 1st and 17’6.75 inches in the Long Jump, winning both events.

Emmetsburg’s Byron Maina was the winner for the Boys High Jump at 6’4”.

Spirit Lake’s Lauren Travis won the Girls Discuss at 118′ 5”.

For the Girls Shot Put, Hillary Ruschy of Estherville Lincoln Central threw a distance of 41’9.5” to finish 1st.
