Pocahontas, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — A Lake View woman charged with neglect for the death of a nursing home resident in Fonda was sentenced this week to two years in prison.

70-year-old Becky Manning of Lake View was working as a temporary nurse when the patient died in 2023 and was charged in 2024. At least four staff members told investigators the patient required – and had even requested – suctioning of his throat, but Manning refused. The patient then suffocated to death.

Manning entered an Alvord plea in the case, which is not a guilty plea but admission that a judge or jury would likely find her guilty.
