OKOBOJI, IA (Northwestiowanow) – The Okoboji Foundation has awarded $474,462 to 13 local organizations through its 2025 grant cycle, funding projects that aim to improve quality of life across the Iowa Great Lakes region.

This year’s recipients include the Dickinson County Nature Center, which received $88,000 for a new Nature Play Area, and the City of Lake Park, awarded $75,000 for park renovations. Other major grants went to the Dickinson County Trails Board, the Humane Society of Northwest Iowa, and the Save Turtle Lake initiative.

In addition to the Foundation’s Leadership Grants, over $84,000 was awarded through its Youth in Philanthropy (YIP) program. Okoboji Foundation President Mindy Gress tells Northwest Iowa Now the student-led initiative encourages members to evaluate and award grants using a process similar to the adult committee.

Grants are awarded annually through a competitive process. A volunteer committee of about ten community members review applications based on potential impact and alignment with the Foundation’s mission.

Funding comes entirely from community donations and endowment funds.
