GILMORE CITY, IA (Northwestiowanow) — A suspect connected to a pursuit and overnight manhunt near Gilmore City is now in custody.
In a statement released Wednesday morning at approximately 10:20, the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the suspect had been located and taken into custody.
The incident began Tuesday, June 23, when deputies were called to the 1900 block of Birch Avenue around 6:12 p.m. for a report of a driver behaving erratically.
When deputies located the vehicle, the suspect refused to cooperate and attempted to flee, backing into a sheriff’s vehicle and causing minor damage.
A pursuit followed through rural roads and farm fields into neighboring Pocahontas County. The chase ended in a heavily wooded quarry area north of Gilmore City after the suspect’s vehicle became disabled. The suspect then fled on foot.
Law enforcement launched an extensive search involving multiple agencies, K-9 units, and drones. The search continued until approximately 10:15 p.m., when it was suspended due to darkness and difficult terrain.
Residents in the area had been advised to remain vigilant and secure their homes and vehicles during the search.
Authorities have not yet released the suspect’s identity or any potential charges. More information is expected as it becomes available.
