Spencer, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — Clay County Pony Express says they raised 2 thousand 771 dollars on Good Friday. They started with 200 dollars where the event started in Sioux Rapids, 443 dollars in Everly, and 458 in Royal.

Palo Alto County riders picked up 296 dollars in Ayrshire, 169 in Mallard, 142 in Curlew, 346 in Ruthven, 305 in Cylinder, 406 in Graettinger, 827 in Emmetsburg, 548 in West bend, and 439 where they ended in Whittemore for a grand total of three thousand 578 dollars.

The annual event started in Clay County in the 1960s, and the current President of the Iowa Pony Express – Lynn Bumsted – says all of those donations have added up over the years.

The money is donated to Camp Courageous, the facility for children with handicaps.
