Rock Rapids, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — CBS News is reporting that the Rock Rapids man who was detained for questioning in the Dominican Republic has been allowed to leave the country.

A judge on the island ruled this week that Josh Riibe should be freed from police surveillance and be allowed to return home. Authorities had confiscated Riibe’s passport and a replacement was issued by the US Embassy. Police say that Riibe had never been treated as a suspect in the case, but Riibe’s lawyers said he was a victim being asked the same questions over and over again and being restricted to his hotel room. Riibe is the last known person to have contact with 20 year old Sudiksha Konanki who is missing and presumed drowned.

Riibe says he and the University of Pittsburgh student went swimming together, he remembers encountering a big wave, and he woke up on the beach.
