SPENCER, IA (Northwestiowanow) – The former Gary’s on the River building is being renovated into a community event venue after receiving funding through the Spencer Chamber of Commerce Kickstarter Business Program.

Owner of Riverside Events, Shelby Franken, recently received funding through the Chamber program, providing additional resources for renovations and improvements at the riverfront property.

Franken says the opportunity to purchase the building came after she and her husband had discussed owning a business of their own.

 

 

She officially took ownership of the building earlier this summer and has since been working to transform the facility into a venue capable of hosting weddings, bridal and baby showers, fundraisers, celebrations of life and other community events.

Franken says the funding will help purchase equipment and inventory needed to better serve customers and community organizations.

 

 

Despite ongoing improvements, Franken says the venue is already booking events and has several gatherings scheduled in the coming months.
