West Bend, IA (northwestiowanow) — A reported reckless driver led law enforcement on a high-speed pursuit across three counties Wednesday afternoon.

Deputies with the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to Highway 15 near West Bend around 2:39 p.m. on a report of a reckless driver.

A deputy later attempted to stop the vehicle near 1st Avenue Northwest and 4th Street Northwest in West Bend, but authorities say the driver fled. The pursuit continued through Palo Alto, Pocahontas, and Humboldt counties. Authorities allege the vehicle reached 125 miles per hour in a 60-mile-per-hour zone.

In Humboldt County, the suspect allegedly rammed a Kossuth County patrol vehicle, ending the pursuit.

The driver, identified as 59-year-old Randal Dennis Shimon of Rolfe, was charged in Palo Alto County with Class D felony eluding, first-offense operating while intoxicated, and first-offense possession of marijuana. He also faces charges of reckless driving, possession of drug paraphernalia, and several other traffic violations.

He faces additional charges in Humboldt County of Class C felony assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer and Class D felony interference with official acts with a dangerous weapon.

Shimon was taken to the Palo Alto County Jail to await an initial court appearance.
