Spencer, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – The Spencer Softball team hosted Sergeant Bluff-Luton on Monday night. News Radio 102.5 and AM 1240 KICD brought you the broadcast from Northwest Iowa Now.
Emma White was the starter for the Tigers with the Warriors rolling out Emma Crooks.
It was a tough top of the first inning for White, as the first 6 batters all reached base and eventually scored. White would be relieved after those first 6 plate appearances by Jersey Vail who managed to slow the bleeding enough to get out of the inning with Spencer trailing 6-0.
The Tiger offense couldn’t get going all night, never bringing up more than 5 batters to the plate in an inning.
Sergeant Bluff-Luton picked up a run on a Bailey Ball RBI groundout that scored Joleigh Hensley to make it 7-0 in the 3rd.
The Warriors picked up a couple more runs in the 5th with Chloe Book bringing in Joleigh Hensley on an RBI triple, then later scoring on a wild pitch to make it 9-0.
That would be the score that held, as the game ended early when Spencer wasn’t able to bring the deficit beneath 8 in the 5th inning, and Sergeant Bluff-Luton picked up the 9-0 win and first shutout of the Tigers since 2016.
The Warriors are now 30-6 on the year and prepare to wrap up Missouri River Conference play in a double-header on Tuesday against Jefferson of Council Bluffs at home.
Spencer will hit the road for a tough test against Algona on Tuesday after falling to 11-16 on the year.
