Royal, IA (northwestiowanow.com) — Royal celebrates their 125th birthday this summer. To prepare, projects are popping up around the town, including new welcome signs. Four Spencer High School “No Boundaries” program students collaborated with Royal residents to design and install new welcome signs for the town. One reads “Royal: Established 1900” and the other “You’re Always Welcome in Royal.” They also designed a new town flag. The students gained leadership, collaboration, and problem-solving skills through this real-world project.
The project was funded by long-time Royal residents Joyce Thomsen and Shirley Fredericks. The signs were installed on May 8th in preparation for Royal’s upcoming Quasquicentennial and Fun Days in July 2025.
