Granville, IA. ((Northwestiowanow.com) A school bus was involved in a vehicle accident north of Granville. According to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday November 5th at 7:42 AM the Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of an accident at the intersection of 430th St. and Marsh Ave. 3 miles north of Granville.

23-year-old Elliott Dykstra of Alton was behind the wheel of a Ford F-150 eastbound on a 430th St.  76 year old John Kooiman of Orange City was the driver the Unity Christian High School Bus that was southbound on Marsh Ave. The two vehicles collided in the intersection.

Dykstra was transported to Stanford Sheldon Medical Center for treatment of critical injuries.

Kooiman, along with eighteen students were transported to Orange City Area Health System for treatment of various injuries, ranging from minor to serious. One student was transported to Stanford Medical Center and is currently under further observation.

The investigation is jointly being conducted between the Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa State Patrol.

Incident command was activated at Orange city Area Health System to coordinate care and communication between emergency services and involved schools.

The Sheriff’s Office and Orange City Christian schools and Unity Christian High School managed to notify all parents and direct them to Orange City Area Health System to successfully connect with their child.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by the Orange City Police Department, the Hospers Fire Department and ambulance, Granville Fire Department and ambulance and ambulance service form Alton, Orange City, and Sheldon

The accident is still under investigation.
