Iowa City, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – The Spencer Girls Swim team brought 5 events to the IGHSAU State Swimming Championships Thursday and Friday at the University of Iowa Aquatic Center.

Action started for Spencer on Thursday when Sophomore Halle Sears competed in the 200 Yard Individual Medley Prelims.  Sears swam the 6th fastest time in prelims at 2:08.36 to qualify for Finals.  That was a school record for Spencer.

Sears came back for the 100 Yard Fly where she toppled another Spencer School record, swimming 57.13 seconds for the 4th fastest prelim time, advancing her to finals on Friday.

Spencer started off Friday’s events with the 200 Yard Medley Relay.  Spencer’s team of Gretchen Haak, Anna Quanbeck, Aubrey McFarland, and Ava Vogt swam a time of 2:00.29 which was good for 29th after being seeded 32nd.

Sears would then compete in the 200 Yard Individual Medley Finals, taking 6th with a time of 2:09.31.

For the 100 Yard Fly Finals, Sears took 4th with a time of 57.07.

Sears would join McFarland, Maisy Schmidt, and Vogt for the 200 Yard Freestyle.  The Tigers took 26th with a time of 1:45.31.

Spencer wrapped up the 2025 Girls Swimming Season in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay with a team of McFarland, Schmidt, Vogt, and Sears clocking 3:52.58 to finish 27th.

Dowling Catholic of West Des Moines took the State Championship with a dominant 340 points.  Cedar Falls was 2nd with 264, and Northwest of Waukee finished 3rd with 250.

Spencer was 23rd out of 30 scoring teams with 28 points.
