Sheldon, IA (KICD) — After four years, Sheldon’s Police Chief is leaving with no explanation. The council has accepted Scott Burtch’s letter of resignation, in which he says he will miss working the employees of the police department and the area’s dedicated first responders. His last official day will be August 30th.

City Administrator Sam Kooiker credits Burtch for starting the city’s K-9 program; adding officers; enhancing training; and upgrading equipment and vehicles. Also expanding Sheldon’s participation in the regional special response team and drug task force.

Seargeant Eric Meineke has been named interim Police Chief.
